Panorama programme highlighting the 9000 annual deaths attributable to living in cold homes.
The programme exposes the under recording weaknesses of the new LIHC measurement system and the failure to invest sufficiently in reducing the problem – as we well know , continuing to blight lives and overwhelm the health services .
Also attached is the link to the NEA press release calling for more to be done in terms of investment and supporting the CMA call for interim measures to limit the rates applying to PP Metering. That said, there appears to be a lack of clarity on the timescales for implementing those reforms, so the ‘Epidemic of the Silent Cold Killer‘ continues!
You’ll note the strong criticism of energy companies reclaiming debt – with BG highlighted, reclaiming £3 on every £10 put on the meter. Not only are PP rates now in the region of a staggering 40% more expensive than the best DD rates, but reclaiming debt in this way means that there is even less cash for heating – a double whammy effect for those struggling in debt.
