Project Briefing – Care and Repair North East Wales Ltd

Community Force for Good

Care and Repair North East Wales Ltd has received project funding from the Libor fund to develop a range of community focussed initiatives that can be delivered and facilitated by Forces veterans. The project will run over two years commencing in May 2018 and will be based from Care and Repairs offices located on Rowleys Drive in Shotton.

Care and Repair North East Wales is a Community Benefit Society with charitable status and provides a range of services and support which allow people to remain in their own homes for as long as they require. The site at Rowleys Drive was previously used as the sports and social club for TATA steel employees and provides many acres of sports pitches and woodland. Care and Repair now own the site and are drawing up plans for development and improvement.

This unique set of circumstances has allowed Care and Repair to develop a multi-faceted project with Libor that will enable Forces veterans to support their local communities and to gain new training and qualifications. The range of options provided through Care and Repair gives options for a variety of schemes to be developed that could include supporting people in their communities and homes, developing sports clubs, developing health and physical activity projects, providing outdoor education and running leadership courses.

In the first instance we are looking to engage with Forces veterans who would like to be involved with the scheme and would like to find out more. To develop the project, we have organised a family event for the community

Saturday 2nd June 2018 – 10.00am to 4.00pm Community Day (incorporating the Big Lunch) at Care and Repair, Place For You, Rowleys Drive, Shotton, CH5 1PY

Following the engagement events, the next stages of the project are;

  • To establish a local network involving Forces Veterans, their families and other community agencies that will develop activities and projects
  • To identify a wide-reaching programme of courses and qualifications that will be open to Forces veterans to allow them to develop community projects.
